You may feel like you don’t know where to begin helping in these tumultuous times. Or maybe you don’t know where to begin looking for help. Either way, we at the BSFC have curated these lists of resources, organizations to donate to or seek assistance from and information that we believe is important to share with our community.

  1. Check out this incredible document of resources created by BSFC staff member Neeknaz. The document includes a wide variety of information, local organizations to support or seek support from and more! I’ve highlighted a few below:

    1. Financial Resources:

    2. Homeless Services:

    3. Local Businesses to Support:

  2. Support local worker-owner cooperatives and collectives near Berkeley!

    1. Mandela Grocery Cooperative (the Food Collective Board visited this cooperative!)

        1. hey have similar programs to us like the Pay-It-Forward program and hold many of our same values! They are currently offering online ordering if a large range of products for delivery and pick-up.

      1. Cheese Board and Arizmendi Bakery!

        1. THEY ARE BOTH INCREDIBLE. Incredible pizza and baked goods and such a warm staff! Truly two worthwhile and amazing businesses to support!

      2. Other Avenues Grocery Cooperative

        1. They are located in the Sunset neighborhood of San Francisco so if you ever head to the city for an adventure (or live there!) check out their great selection of natural personal care products, local food specialities (Wise Sons Bagels!) and produce!

      3. Rainbow Grocery

        1. The co-op of all co-ops! Head to SF to check out Rainbow and their incredible bulk selection, amazing produce and many varieties of fresh kimchi! Rainbow is worth a field trip!

  3. To find more co-ops and businesses to support, check out this list of cooperatively owned businesses that Rainbow Grocery put together including everything from women’s self defense classes to bookstores!

  4. Three things to try this week that provide aid to your community:

    1. Try sewing masks with materials you have around your home for you and your family and friends.Use this link from the CDC with instructions to make different types of masks: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/prevent-getting-sick/diy-cloth-face-coverings.html

    2. If you drive, check out what organizations might need drivers or people to drop off food and supplies… you could even post on a platform like Nextdoor or facebook if you’d be open to delivering groceries or necessities to elderly or immunocompromised in your community. If you live in San Francisco or the Bay area, Volunteer for Dine 1-1. You can also look for similar organizations if you don’t live in the Bay Area. This organization helps do two very important things in this crisis: provide community organizations with meals to distribute and through private donations purchase large amounts of meals from restaurants to deliver to these organizations. This project depends on private donations and especially volunteer drivers to deliver the food from the restaurants to the organizations!https://dine11.org/sf/This is the form to sign up to be a volunteer: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfW9vAdszxOlE5nn_IqWhxZRe6mY3st790c08SXSwKpN07paw/viewform

    3. If you are able to stay at home, think about the money you’d usually be spending on public transportation, Ubers or eating out and consider setting aside even a small portion of this to donate to a local organization.

  5. If you are financially secure and have anything at all to donate, take a look through these websites:
